Mexi Lake
Project Type: Master Plan (Central Business District)
Location: Changsha, China
Project Size: N/A

Mexi Lake is a large-scale mixed-use master plan envisioned as a new civic and commercial heart for Changsha. Designed during my tenure with Gensler, the project reimagines the Central Business District as a luminous urban composition—an interconnected constellation of towers unified by landscape, infrastructure, and movement.

The guiding concept, Constellation of Stars, positions each of the nine towers as an individual “star” within a larger urban galaxy. Together, they form a dynamic cluster—distinct in identity yet unified through a network of elevated pedestrian bridges, or “galaxy” skyways, that stitch the development together. This three-dimensional circulation strategy activates the district at multiple levels, creating seamless connectivity between commercial, office, retail, and cultural programs.
At the heart of the master plan lies a grand landscaped central park—an urban oasis that anchors the composition and provides vital civic open space.
Beneath and within this green core, a major metro interchange serves as a powerful transit hub, channeling pedestrian energy from across the city directly into the district. The convergence of transit, park, and vertical density transforms the project into a vibrant regional destination.

Mexi Lake is not simply a collection of buildings; it is an integrated urban ecosystem—where architecture, landscape, and infrastructure align to create a new gravitational center for Changsha’s continued growth.
