Scorpion
Project Type: Residential
Location: Jacksonville, Oregon
Project Size: 2,700 SQ FT
Defined by its accidental scorpion-like form, this residence uses angled 30-degree volumes to shape dynamic “claws,” a squared front “head,” and a rear portico “tail,” creating a bold architectural identity and organized spatial hierarchy.
A west-facing clerestory introduces shifting natural light, supporting passive solar heating in winter and ventilation in summer. The master suite projects outward to capture valley views, complete with a Jacuzzi oriented toward the landscape.
The open great room centers around a structural core with a see-through fireplace, integrating kitchen, dining, and living areas for an entertainment-focused lifestyle.
Warm natural materials—cherry wood, granite, slate, red oak, and mosaic tile—define the interior. A bedrock-carved wine cellar and cigar room offer a cave-like retreat.
Below, a recreation room opens to a vanishing-edge pool and waterfall, with cantilevered decks enhancing the home’s floating presence and private oasis atmosphere.
